Welcome to James Place

“Building relationships, responding to needs and offering hope in the name of Jesus”

James Place is a community resource of Elmbrook Church serving Waukesha and the surrounding community since 2007. We extend faith, hope and life to people living in difficult circumstances. We are here to listen to a person’s story, assess their needs and connect them with people and resources that increase dignity and hope.

In early 2007 an Elmbrook Church Pastor met with a Waukesha building owner to view the property at 129 W. Broadway. The building owner asked the Pastor, “If you had a building like this to do something in the community, what would you do?” The answer: “I don’t know, but I’ll take it.”  James Place opened its doors in March of 2007 for 6 hours a week to offer free blood pressure screening. This soon expanded to helping people find resources and helping with job searches.  A small team of volunteers maintained a faithful presence and after a year, we added a Community Outreach Nurse, and shortly after, a Counseling Intern. As God revealed needs and sent people to volunteer, more events, programs and services were added.  In 2012 we applied for accreditation to provide Immigration Services in the community. We added the space at 131 W. Broadway to accommodate our growth. In the beginning, we did not have a strategic plan and no one could have imagined what it would look like today. If someone were to ask, “Who came up with all of this?” we would have to reply, “Only God.”

Overview of who we are at James Place

What’s in a Name:

Our name has both historical and biblical significance. In the early 1900’s,  our building was a home decorating business run by the James sisters. We are proud of the history of the Waukesha community. In the Bible, James 2:17 says “Faith, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” This verse and other portions of James 2 have laid a foundation for all that we do at James Place.
